Jinan Makram Ahmed is a 22 year old second stage student at the University of Law in Erbil with an aim to see justice prevail in all parts of Iraq. She also has a dream of working in the Court as a lawyer after she completes her studies.

“I believe that justice will achieve my dreams and a time of nepotism will disappear by many charity organizations that work on making balance between women and work in society...” says Jinan.

She learned of the Emploment Skills Program provided by the Women Empowerment Organization (WEO) in Erbil with funding from USAID-Tijara from a friend. In May 2011, she applied and registered her papers for the ten day course.

"After finishing the training course, I have a familiarity with how to submit my curriculum vitae and working on the computer with the use of English vocabulary, which made me efficient to start a new job."

WEO matched her with participating employers. Jinan selected to work at the Court of Inquiry in Erbil staffing the “Legal Assistance Help Desk”, which she started in June, interviewing clients and completing the necessary legal forms for submission to the court. Working with attorneys at the court also motivated Jinan to continue her undergraduate studies while working at the court.

Jinan thanks USAID-Tijara and the WEO for its training and recruitment program “Employment Skills” which provided her the opportunity that she has always dreamed of and now will help her to achieve justice as she always hoped.
